Some unscrupulous Nigerian traders and businessmen have been blamed for flooding the country with sub-standard goods from the Republic of China.
According to the National Co-coordinator of the Nigeria-China Business Council,Chief Matthew Uwaekwe who exonerated China and her manufacturers of goods,it was traders from our country that used to place orders for inferior goods so as to maximize profits.
Despite the fact that both the Chinese and Nigerian governments signed agreement on dis-encouraging the importation or exportation of sub-standard goods from either country and largely majority of Nigeria importers complied, he noted that,"Out of every twelve disciples there must always be a judas".
Currently,Chief Uwaekwe said the balance of trade between the two countries was heavily favored China with over $7billion while Nigeria recorded a paltry a little over $500m.
He therefore stressed the need to reverse the trend by encouraging Chinese entrepreneurs to come and invest in Nigeria in such areas like-manufacturing of goods, power projects, agriculture, telecommunications and other allied developmental projects.
In doing this, he said that attention should be shifted from investing in cities to encouraging the shift of attention to rural areas to checkmate the drifting of people from rural to urban centres.
